The emotional spine of Season 3 rests on the fragile relationship between Percy Jackson and Nico di Angelo. Percy sees his younger, clumsy self in Nico. He makes a solemn promise to protect Bianca, Nico’s older sister, when she joins the Hunters of Artemis and sets off on the rescue mission for Annabeth and Artemis. When that promise shatters, the ripple effects reshape the entire series.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly during production in September 2026, Scobell and Chrisopulos described how they developed that on-camera tension off-screen. Scobell took on a mentoring role similar to Percy's behavior toward Nico at Camp Half-Blood, guiding the younger actor through the demands of filming a massive visual-effects production.
The two actors built their rapport over casual gaming sessions and rehearsal workshops focused on the card game Mythomagic. By the time cameras rolled on the story's critical late-season confrontations, their dynamic felt lived-in. The betrayal hurts because the affection was genuine.
